Trends and Prospects of Major EU Policies in 2022 _1.

KOTRA recently published a report published by the European Parliament Research Center in January 2022 and information on recent trends in the major European Green Deal policies under discussion by the EU Parliament.

In particular, companies related to the plastic industry should pay attention to the carbon border adjustment tax (CBAM) and eco-friendly plastic-related norms because they have a great ripple effect.
Hydrogen, organic compounds, and polymers (plastics) have been added to CBAM items and taxable existing items, and the eco-friendly plastic norms plan to announce the final policy on biomass based, biodegradable and compostable plastics during the second quarter of 2022 after collecting opinions from European industries by '22.3.15.
The Green Plastics Federation monitors EU policy changes and proposes policies that are beneficial to Korea's carbon neutrality to the government and help companies targeting the European market.

When the EU's policy plan is completed, each country's efforts for eco-friendliness can create a more specific agreement. Around Blue will continue to lead the way.

The following is a partial copy of what was posted, and please refer to the link for more information.

The EU prohibits the distribution and sale of disposable plastic products in accordance with the Plastic Reduction Guidelines (EU 2019/904) currently in force on July 3, 2021. However, there are no eco-friendly plastic-related norms that can replace them, so the EU will lay the relevant legal foundation in 2022. The executive committee began collecting public opinions to establish related policies on Jan. 18 and plans to announce the final policy plan related to △ biological base, △ biodegradation, and △ compostable plastics within the second quarter of 2022 after collecting opinions for eight weeks (~'22. The policy, which is part of the plan to implement the circular environment system, will include raw materials, certification, and usage standards for bio-based, biodegradable, and compostable plastics. Based on this, policies that can be interlinked with existing regulations such as Packaging and Packaging Waste Guidelines (PPWD) and Disposable Plastic Guidelines (SUPD) are also expected to be proposed.
